After twelve years in the New York publishing world as an acquisitions editor, I work independently with authors who are seeking to elevate their work and to have a creative partner before approaching agents or choosing to publish through an e-platform. My process is that I generally read the work several times, and then provide the author with both overall conceptual notes for development as well as detailed notes keyed to the pages of the manuscript to be considered for the future drafts (or draft) of the work. I work with my clients both through email and over the phone and offer creative support and coaching as well as consulting on the development of their pitch materials. I feel that an editor serves both the writer as well as the future reader, and I do everything I can to advocate for both in order to create the strongest work possible.
